2025 Yamaha WorldSBK Livery Revealed
The Yamaha WorldSBK liveries for the 2025 season have been unveiled for the factory team and satellite GRT squad
The Yamaha R1 has broken cover in its WorldSBK race livery for 2025, as the factory Pata Yamaha team and satellite GYTR GRT Yamaha outfit have both launched their campaigns for this year.
After winning seven races in 2023, Yamaha scored only six podiums in the 2024 WorldSBK season, despite signing six-time World Superbike Champion Jonathan Rea to fill the hole left by the departure of Toprak Razgatlioglu.
This came despite a change of homologation mid-season, with the new Yamaha R1 introducing winglets to the model for the first time, those becoming available on the showroom version of the Iwata-built superbike from this year.
Although 2024 was clearly a disappointing season for Yamaha, it comes back in 2025 with more or less the same rider line-up.
The aforementioned Rea returns at the Pata-backed factory team alongside Andrea Locatelli, who will contest his fifth WorldSBK season this year – all of which have been with the Pata Yamaha squad.
At GRT, Remy Gardner is back for a third year after scoring his maiden WorldSBK podium last year; his endearment to the Yamaha factory evidenced by his call-ups to the MotoGP team at the Sachsenring and Silverstone, and his wildcard at Motegi. Dominique Aegerter again joins Gardner at GRT, the Swiss hoping for a better campaign this year than he endured in 2024, when a mid-season injury saw him miss three full rounds and his best result (sixth) came at the first race of the season in Australia.
There are changes outside of the two official teams, though, as GMT94 has departed WorldSBK and returned to focusing solely on World Supersport; and Motoxracing – which is yet to show its 2025 livery – has expanded to two bikes, lost Bradley Ray, and brought in Tito Rabat and Bahattin Sofuoglu.
Speaking on the launch of the Pata Yamaha and GYTR GRT Yamaha teams, Yamaha Motor Europe’s division manager for motorsport Andrea Dosoli, said: “2025 marks a significant milestone for Yamaha as we celebrate ten years since our return to the FIM Superbike World Championship in 2016.
“While our results in 2024 fell short of expectations, the dedication and collaborative effort from our engineers, the wider YME management team, our riders and our teams has been unwavering.
“Over the winter, everyone has been working hard to make a step forward for 2025 and encouraging progress in winter testing fuels our confidence as we prepare for another year of racing.
“The competition in WorldSBK is at a really high level, so we are excited for another year of close, thrilling battles on track.”
Niccolo Canepa, Yamaha Motor Europe road racing sporting manager, added: “It is an impressive statistic to have five world champions on the R1 as we head into WorldSBK 2025.
“Jonathan’s [Rea] career achievements speak for themselves as he is the most successful rider in WorldSBK history.
“While last season presented challenges for him, his determination and resilience are second to none and a year of experience with the R1 will undoubtedly prove important.
“Andrea enters his fifth season with Yamaha in WorldSBK, having already demonstrated his ability to compete at the front. We are confident he will continue to build on his impressive performances.”
