Type approval documents from the USA are pointing to a new Harley-Davidson Street Glide Ultra arriving at some point in 2025.

The reports, first published on Motorcycle.com, reveal the model as the FLHXU, with the letter ‘U’ denoting the ‘Ultra’, while Harley’s standard Street Glide carries the model designation FLHX. Ultras, in the Harley-Davidson-sphere, are the brand's top-line heavyweight (or Grand American) touring models, kitted out with everything needed to cross a continent in all-American style and comfort.

While we know nothing more than simply Harley-Davidson registering the FLHXU name in homologation filings, we can at least have a stab as to how the bike could shape up once it does arrive.

The stock Street Glide is, at the moment, a bagger configuration, and should you want to add on the touring accoutrements needed to two-up long-distance cruising, you’ll have to start ticking off options on the biblically long H-D accessory catalogue. Opting for the Ultra should pile those in for you, meaning your bike will arrive from the factory ready to go munching some miles.

Some finger-in-the-air assumptions have us envisaging a bike with the rear seat backrest and backbox (boot) all incorporated into one unit, while it's likely a taller, more touring-friendly screen will also arrive - the stock Street Glide has a low-level non-adjustable screen. Some of the other Ultra and Ultra Limited models produced by the company also feature leg shields mounted to the front crash bars, some of which incorporate speakers for the obligatory stereo system, it’s not clear if that will be the case with this bike.

It’s not clear when the new FLHXU will be confirmed by the Milwaukee brand, although with Harley’s new model announcements reported to be happening in January 2025, we probably won’t have to wait too long to find out for sure.
