This Fireblade Onboard from Lydden Hill is Wild

Tom Ward, who applies his trade in the National Superstock and World Endurance Championships with Honda, has set an unofficial lap record at Lydden Hill Circuit, in what can only be described as a totally bonkers lap.

If you’ve never been on track at Lydden Hill, or don’t know much about the circuit, it’s a very quick yet short four-corner track that requires you to be brave, especially on a powerful 1000cc bike. But that’s exactly what Ward was as he set an unofficial time of 40.6, which is total madness.

Ward currently competes in the Endurance World Championship (EWC) with TRT27 AZ Moto aboard a Honda Fireblade, while also competing in the British National Superstock class. Ward is currently 5th in the standings, with Davey Todd, who became a first-time winner at the Isle of Man TT earlier this year, leading the way.

But away from racing professionally, it appears as though Ward enjoys himself a track day and this lap around Lydden Hill will have the hairs on the back of your neck standing up. The commitment Ward demonstrates is unrelenting as he flips his Fireblade from side-to-side with immense skill and speed.

Showing just how good the new CBR1000RR-R is, we recently did a review on the new 2024 Fireblade SP bike which has undergone its biggest revamp since 2020. The winglets were the first big change which you could spot from a mile away and have been developed to further restrict the risk of the front tyre lifting under acceleration, while it’s also been aimed at improved braking stability. With higher corner speed coming from those changes, clearly Ward had no such issues with corner speed at Lydden Hill, the CBR1000RR-R has done a lot to try and improve areas of the bike.
