World Endurance Rider Dies, Aged 34
World Endurance rider since 2012, Stephane Egea has passed away following a period of illness
The motorcycle world is mourning the death of a long-time World Endurance Championship rider, after Frenchman Stephane Egea passed away last weekend.
Egea's most recent outings came in the EWC where he finished fourth at Le Mans with the Louit April Moto team, before going on to claim victory at the Experimental Class at the 24 Hours of Spa.
Egea had been a mainstay in the EWC series for well over a decade, making his debut in 2012 before a breakthrough victory at the 2021 Le Mans 24 Hour in the Superstock category, which was a big achievement for the homegrown rider and a result which preceded a second-place finish at the 12 Hours of Estoril that same year.
The National Motos team he was riding for at the time went on to achieve a third-place finish in the overall championship standings.
Before debuting in the World Endurance Championship 12 years ago, Egea competed in the European Superstock 600 and the Superstock 1000 Cup classes. Egea’s last competitive appearances in the EWC date back to 2022.
Egea, who had been dealing with cancer recently, did not compete in 2024 for the Team 33 Louit April Moto outfit, and sadly died last weekend, the team has confirmed.
“It is with a heavy heart that we learned this morning of the passing of Stéphane Egea,” a Facebook post from Team 33 Louit April Moto reads. “We had the privilege of working with Stéphane during the 2022 FIM EWC season. All our thoughts and strength go out to Stéphane's family and many friends. Rest in peace.”
We at Visordown extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time.
